HIGHLIGHTS | Nottingham Forest v Arsenal (1-0) | Emirates FA Cup

For only the second time in the past 26 years, we have failed to make it past the third round of the FA Cup – and once again Nottingham Forest – as they were in 2018 – were our nemeses.

In truth we can have few complaints after a very lacklustre performance at the City Ground.

We were far from our best, didn’t create much, and were eventually punished by a late Lewis Grabban goal.

The first half was a particularly drab affair, with neither side managing a shot on target.

Eddie Nketiah and Sambi Lokonga both had shots deflected wide from outside the box, but the usual fluency and speed of movement we had seen in the past few weeks just wasn’t there.

In an attempt to change things, Mikel Arteta brought on Kieran Tierney for Nuno Tavares after just half an hour. Tierney was clearly sent on with instructions to get forward, but still our creativity was lacking before the half-time whistle.

The performance needed to improve after the restart, but it was the hosts who had the first chance of the second period – Leno made a fine save from Philip Zinckernagel’s shot after Brennan Johnson had raced away on the right flank.

Nketiah headed wide from Bukayo Saka’s cross when well placed at the far post, before Leno was called in to action again, stretching to turn away James Garner’s free-kick.

Nketiah tried his luck again after wriggling free inside the box, but he fired over from a difficult angle.

It was difficult to see where a breakthrough would come from, but as the game entered the final ten minutes it was the hosts who scored the only goal. Lewis Grabban – who had only been on the pitch for 15 minutes – converted well at the far post from Ryan Yates’ cross.

We had just under ten minutes to get the goal that would keep us in the FA Cup.

But it wasn’t to be, and we bowed out of the competition without mustering a shot on target.

  1. If this was man city you ll never hear the fans whining, they'll eat it up and move on but here these so called fans keep chatting rubbish, its so obvious they are frauds who just became "fans" couple of years ago ,isn't this the same fa cup you guys kept saying it was mediocre to celebrate winning?

  2. I really hope we learn from this because just wasn’t good enough yesterday and we need to to put our heads down and focus on the league and EFL Cup

  3. We don't even have a Team B. Forget being competitive. Saka, Martinelli, White & Odgard can't pull the strings every game. They need rest, a much needed time -off. Tavares can't be our next Goundouzi. Need a lot of enforcement

  4. I'm a Man City fan from Nottingham, and I can't express how happy I am seeing forest beat arsenal in the fa Cup for the second time in 4 years. Last time it was 4-2. Well done you reds!

  5. LOOK.
Can't say we had problems which was why we lost.
This is about not taking care of business.
I am sure that we saw all theze weaknesses in the Liverpool 4 nil defeat. So this is not a surprise.
No need to bash Sambi Lakonga.💯💯
We know that it will take him sometime to get used to playing at such high intensity & concentrating for long periods.🙏🙏

    My problem is the System.

    Do not do it again.

Charlie Patino is a good player, but, he will hurt the game on the run.
He's not yet settled in, so he doesn't have the free will he needs, inorder to help us on the break.
    He's playing it safe.
So, that takes the sting out of Arsenal.

You have to be careful with Charlie..
Bring him on, and give him the lisence to attack, than start him.
That works better for his sharpness.

If you are going to play Sambi Lakonga, then Xhaka has to be there or a person to hold the midfield..

I'm not against Charlie. I rate him highly.
    But, too many passes upfront.
    We Too slow on attack.
That's what will happen wen you add Charlie to the Mix.

    He's another Ball handler .

    Thus, it's the system

  6. Inconsistency is the characteristic of mediocre and average teams. Yesterday was nowhere near good. I don't care about the players we don't have. The players on the pitch didn't put in a good shift to begin with. I'm appalled and disgusted.

  7. ARTETA IN!
    was it poor. yes.
but every time we lose I buy the dip on arteta. so when I am right about him winning us the league. I can watch aftv and laugh.
some of the players in this game tho. not so much.
need to sell some of them.
we all know who I am talking about.

also patino needs time. he is 18. he would have learned so much from this game.

  8. I feel sad for Leno, I still think he is very competitive to Ramsdale, this season his only game time are mainly in FA cup and Carabao, now his journey in FA cup ended in 3rd round, and he would have Carabao left now, Arsenal is very weak now in mid field without Xhaka, Partey, Elneny, if Arsenal loose to Liverpool in the Carabao, Leno's season is over.

  9. Cedric, Nketiah, Holding and Kolasinac have no business being any where near the first team. Sick and tired of their lackadaisical approach to games

  10. As Gooners I happy for this results, I think Arteta is jenius he show management how week out bench and that's makes them must push to buy class player, so we now can focus on 4th place. I hope fans see what I see .

  11. Eddie was really poor infront goal. Apart from laca, our strikers are kinda depressing. Wish balogun didn't get covid. He would have finished few things Eddie couldn't.
    Focus for top 4 now.
