1) Arsenal open talks over a new contract for Mohamed Elneny

Arsenal are discussing a new contract for Mohamed Elneny, and are hopeful that an agreement will be reached, according to a report from The Athletic.

Elneny looked set to leave the Emirates when his deal expired in the summer. By mid-April, he had only completed 90 minutes once in the Premier League. Fabrizio Romano had claimed that no talks were expected over an extension. There had even been suggestions earlier in the campaign that Elneny’s contract may be torn up.

2) Ian Wright really hopes that Nketiah doesn’t leave Arsenal

Ian Wright has admitted to Match of the Day 2 that he would love Eddie Nketiah to stay with Arsenal now.

Nketiah’s future at the Emirates Stadium has been heavily speculated about with the striker having just months remaining on his current deal.

Rather than exit with a whimper, Nketiah is currently showing his best form in an Arsenal shirt to date.

3) Arsenal star offered to Barcelona after they showed interest last summer

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has been offered to Barcelona recently after they showed interest in him last summer.

Bellerin is currently on loan at Real Betis where he has managed 31 appearances this season. The Spanish right-back was in and out of the Arsenal team over the last few years but has impressed this campaign in La Liga.

4) Italian giants considering a move for Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey

Juventus wants to sign Thomas Partey as they look to improve their team in the summer.

Partey has been a key player for Arsenal, but the Ghanaian hasn’t been as consistently good as the club hoped he would be when he first moved to the Emirates.

Fichajes.net appears to suggest he is a player the Gunners will sell willingly, and it claims Juve wants to take advantage of that.

5) Arsenal still interested in Arthur Melo

Arthur Melo remains on the radar of Arsenal and Tuttomercatoweb claims they will move for him again at the end of this season.

The Brazilian was on their radar in the last transfer window and they tried to add him to their squad.

However, the transfer never happened, and he remained at Juventus for the rest of this season.

6) Arsenal is close to sealing the signature of Premier League midfielder

Arsenal is close to completing the transfer of Youri Tielemans from Leicester City, according to Sun Sports.

The Belgian is the subject of interest from top European clubs in this campaign and the Gunners have been one of his suitors.

Mikel Arteta is rebuilding his team and looking to get them back inside the top four by the end of this season.

7) Inter Milan hoping to retain Arsenal transfer target next season

Inter Milan are hoping to retain Arsenal transfer target Lautaro Martinez next season.

After losing Romelu Lukaku last year, Inter Milan chose not to replace the Belgian forward, and have utilised Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez alongside Martinez this season.

Understandably, they don’t want to lose another striker, and Gazzetta dello Sport (via Cult of Calcio) are reporting that Inter Milan will do everything in their power to keep the Argentine forward.

8) Arsenal want Raheem Sterling to become attack’s focal point

Arsenal want Raheem Sterling this summer, with The Telegraph reporting that Mikel Arteta is ready to make the Manchester City star a focal point of the Gunners’ attack.

Sterling has enjoyed another impressive campaign for Pep Guardiola’s men. He has scored 16 goals in all competitions, including 12 in the Premier League. He has also provided seven assists.

Would Lautaro Martinez Be A Good Signing For Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal?

Would Lautaro Martinez Be A Good Signing For Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal?

Despite Eddie Nketiah’s bright end to the season it’s clear that Mikel Arteta needs to add more strikers to his squad. A hotly fancied option is Inter’s Lautaro Martinez and despite ranking in the top 15% of European strikers for goals per 90 there are question marks over his suitability. So today I’m going to take a look at his strengths and weaknesses before answering the question: Does his transfer to Arsenal make sense?

Statman Dave Clips ➡

Lautaro Martinez is a well rounded striker. A competent finisher off both feet, agile, quick and a hard working team player, Lautaro Martinez is also fairly creative for a centre forward.
The Argentine international also has good off the ball movement. In the final third he likes to create separation between himself and his marker before making last minute darts to reach the ball. This makes him a dangerous penalty box striker but he also uses his intelligent movement to create space for teammates. This particular aspect for Martinez’s play has made him well suited to playing in a front two. Under Antonio Conte he thrived alongside Romelu Lukaku meanwhile this season, Martinez has outshone Edin Dzeko. One of the biggest question marks over Lautaro Martinez is that he can only play in a front two but this isn’t necessarily true. A lot of his 37 caps for Argentina have come as a lone forward where he’s scored at around a goal every other game. He’s also drawn a lot of comparisons with fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero. Prior to his move to Manchester City, Aguero played a lot of minutes in a front two for Atletico Madrid before going on to become one of the best goalscorers in Premier League history, mainly as a lone forward.

As much as he thrives when he’s able to drop off the line and link the play, Lautaro also gets a lot of joy by running in behind defences. This duality will serve him well if he makes a move to a lone forward. He also has an unusual shooting style where he precisely finds the bottom corner of the net – beating the goalkeeper with accuracy rather than power. Lautaro Martinez also has that South American fight and aggression. An energetic forward, Martinez isn’t just happy to press but he actually presses well, curving his runs and using his body position to cut off pass lanes whilst trying to win the ball back. He’s also a very good header of the ball, especially for a small forward.

► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH:

So would he be a good fit for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal? Still only 24 years old, Lautaro Martinez still has room to grow and improve but he’s got the raw materials to be one of the best strikers in Europe. Meanwhile his second striker style would suit Arteta’s system. Arsenal have performed much better as a team without Aubameyang when their striker has operated more like a false 9 – dropping off the line and overloading the opposition’s midfield by creating a box with 4 players. There are predictable question marks over his physicality. Standing at around 5 foot 8, Martinez will be towered over by most defenders but this has been the case everywhere he’s played. There’s also been a long list of small forwards who have thrived in the Premier League.
Alexis Sanchez, Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero are all diminutive forwards who have had excellent Premier League careers.

But what do you think? Would Lautaro Martinez be a good signing for Arsenal? And would he be your pick for the Gunners? Let me know in the comments below!
