Sky Sports News understands that the English FA has held private conversations with UEFA and FIFA, urging them to ban Russia from the upcoming men’s World Cup and women’s European Championship.

England, Scotland and Wales have said they will not play Russia in football matches at any level “for the foreseeable future”, including any team recognised as the ‘Football Union of Russia’.

UEFA are planning to remove Spartak Moscow from this season’s Europa League in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian side have been drawn to play RB Leipzig in the last 16, with the second leg scheduled to be played on March 17. No official confirmation has been made by UEFA.
